The Temporary Works Designer job/Structural Engineer job itself where you will be responsible for developing and verifying engineering design solutions for Temporary Works. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that all designs meet project requirements and comply with relevant standards and legislation. Your role will include conducting detailed stress calculations and structural analysis to ensure the safety and integrity of Temporary Works. More specifically:
- Design Development: Create and develop Temporary Works designs that comply with BS 5975: 2019, ensuring that designs meet project requirements and are feasible for implementation.
- Design Verification: Verify and approve Temporary Works designs before implementation, ensuring they meet the required standards and safety regulations.
- Stress Calculations and Structural Analysis: Perform detailed stress calculations, structural analysis, and load assessments to ensure that Temporary Works are designed to withstand all expected loads and stresses without compromising safety.
- Compliance: Ensure that all designs comply with CDM Regulations 2015 and other legislative standards related to Temporary Works.
- Design Briefs: Prepare accurate design briefs in consultation with the project team, reflecting the actual situation on-site
- Design Checks: Ensure that a competent authority, who was not involved in the original design, carries out design checks to confirm safety and compliance.
- Inspection and Testing: Formalise an inspection and test plan, alongside quality control checklists, to verify that Temporary Works meet certified design standards.
- Certification: Ensure adequate checks are carried out upon completion of the Temporary Works to confirm no adverse effects on the Permanent Works and certification signed by TWD and TWDC.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Temporary Works Designated Individual (TWDI) and the NNB Temporary Works Lead to deliver engineering design solutions
You will have
To be successful as a Temporary Works Designer/Structural Engineer here, you will have a healthy mix of the following:
Formal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a recognised engineering institution (e.g., Institution of Structural Engineers, Institution of Civil Engineers).
- Temporary Works Design certification (e.g., from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) or other recognised bodies).
Industry Experience:
- Demonstrable experience as a Temporary Works Designer in an Engineering Construction environment, particularly in projects of a similar scale.
- Strong understanding of BS 5975: 2019 and Temporary Works design principles.
- Extensive knowledge of construction techniques and materials relevant to Temporary Works.
- Proficiency in relevant design and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD.Pro, Tekla, or similar).
Stress Calculations and Structural Analysis:
- Extensive experience in performing stress calculations, load assessments, and structural analysis.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to ensure that Temporary Works designs are safe and effective under all expected conditions.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Familiarity with CDM Regulations design obligations and other UK construction industry standards
