The Head of Health and Safety, HOH&S job itself, where you will lead the development, refinement, and delivery of the organisation’s Health & Safety vision and policy, embedding the company’s values and fostering a strong, positive safety culture at the heart of everything. This role champions a culture of engagement at every level, ensuring the Health & Safety strategy is understood, embraced, and lived in practice.
Plus with responsibility for assurance, including ISO 45001, the role reinforces leadership’s commitment to continual improvement.
More specifically:
- Inspire and guide the Health & Safety team to deliver proactive, professional, and future-focused support, advice, and coaching across the estate.
- Communicate with clarity and conviction, ensuring that staff, leaders, and the Board fully understand their responsibilities and role in maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Advise and influence Heads of Department, and the Board on the impact of new legislation and best practice, shaping strategic responses that safeguard people and operations.
- Ensure the organisation’s Health & Safety management system is not only compliant with ISO 45001, but also a living framework for innovation and continual improvement.
- Guide the organisation’s approach to Health & Safety policies and procedures so that compliance is achieved through ownership and engagement, not enforcement.
- Use KPIs and performance data to inform and inspire decision-making at Board and leadership levels.
- Represent the organisation as a leader in safety, sharing insights at external forums, conferences, and with stakeholders, and ensuring knowledge is cascaded effectively internally.
- Champion risk awareness by ensuring assessments and control measures are robust, practical, and embedded into everyday operations.
- Enable learning and accountability through well-facilitated reviews, timely investigations, and clear communication of lessons learned.
- Shape and deliver training programmes that empower employees to own Health & Safety and contribute to a stronger culture of care.
- Lead stewardship of the Health & Safety budget, ensuring resources are used effectively to support innovation, training, and improvement

You will have
To be successful as Head of Health and Safety, HOH&S, you will have a healthy mix of the following:
- Degree-level education with a professional Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent).
- A proven track record of leading Health & Safety at a senior level, with experience navigating complex risk environments.
- Hands-on experience of shaping and embedding behavioural safety cultures that go beyond compliance.
- Visible and authentic commitment to Health & Safety values, leading by example.
- Skilled in learning from incidents through transparent, constructive investigations that build trust and drive improvement.
- Full driving licence with flexibility to travel as required.
