The Graduate Mechatronics Engineer job itself, reporting to the Lead Systems Engineer.  This is a new role to combine the skills and knowledge in mechanical, systems, software, and electrical engineering to develop solutions for our special-purpose vehicles.

The role will involve designing and modelling of system functions of the vehicles to enable the systems and mechanical engineers to develop physical prototypes and control software.  The role will also support the systems and mechanical engineers in producing 2D & 3D CAD models and drawings for mechanical and electrical components.  More specifically you will be mentored to fulfill the following:

  • Use of 1D CAE simulation software packages to simulate systems for product development.
  • Create functional system models for the product range, working with mechanical and systems engineers to make performance and efficiency improvements.
  • Utilize 1D CAE models to simulate and validate control strategies, ensuring robust performance and adherence to project requirements.
  • Present control system concepts and ideas effectively to the software team, fostering collaboration and efficient integration processes.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of mobile hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics.
  • Producing 3D CAD schemes and from them 2D CAD drawings to the relevant ISO
  • standards. Produce and maintain accurate bills of materials within the SAP system.
  • Assist with the design and drawings in 2D and 3D CAD of systems circuit drawings wiring harnesses etc.
  • Produce and maintain accurate bills of materials within the SAP ERP system.
  • To monitor continuously the cost effectiveness of designs and components to ensure that direct costs are minimized.
  • To follow the Engineering Change Management process to ensure timely introduction of new parts and seamless changes to existing parts 
  • To liaise regularly and effectively with other members of the Engineering team to ensure a cohesive overall design
  • Ensure that the real test environment matches the simulation environment through testing, validation and verification. 
  • To support other departments within___ the business and ensure that high quality levelsare achieved in design and manufacture.

You will have                  

To be successful as Graduate Mechatronics Engineer you will have a healthy mix of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Understanding of developing system models using ID CAE Software (Simcenter Amesim, Altair Matlab, Simulink, etc.)
  • Ability to design mechanical components, including sheet metal using 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Ability to design circuit drawings, wiring harnesses, etc., in 2D and 3D CAD.
  • Have an understanding of control electronics, hydraulic & pneumatic systems and software.
  • Drive, energy and determination and commitment to coordinate multi task projects, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Current UK driving license holder
  • Willingness to travel within the UK & overseas at short notice to assist with urgent technical problems
