You will like
The Civil Engineer role itself offers a rewarding balance between hands-on design, site visits, and client liaison. You’ll be responsible for delivering civil and drainage designs for a diverse portfolio, including residential and commercial developments. Your days will encompass producing CAD drawings, undertaking site surveys, and designing SUDS solutions like soakaways and attenuation ponds. You’ll also carry out hydraulic modelling and prepare Flood Risk Assessments, all while liaising directly with clients and project teams. Autonomy and project ownership are encouraged, with opportunities to run your own projects and play a strategic part in the company’s growth.
You will have
- A relevant Civil Engineering Qualification (HNC/BTEC or above, BSc/MEng preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in civil engineering, specialising in drainage and roads
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and Microsoft Office suite
- Hands-on experience with site surveying and setting out
- Strong knowledge of drainage design, flood risk assessments, and civil infrastructure for residential and commercial developments
- Full UK driving licence
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills and keen attention to detail
Desirable but not essential:
- Professional Membership of ICE or equivalent
- Experience with WinDes, Tuflow, HEC-RAS, FEH, and other industry-standard software
- Knowledge of highway design and agreements like Section 38, 278, and utility design
- Experience in private roads, car park design, and structural aspects for low-rise properties or sea defences
- Participation in project meetings and small project management
