The Senior Calibration Technician AKA Senior Test Technician job itself which is an exciting opening for an in-house Technician at a world-class facility. The role of a Senior Calibration Technician in the laboratory will be to test, calibrate, operate and repair electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, electrohydraulic, or electronic measuring and recording instruments, apparatus, and equipment.
As a Senior Calibration Technician your main duties will be:
- To undertake the operation of and adherence to procedures defined within the quality manual
- To conduct traceable & UKAS accredited calibrations under ISO 9001 & BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems, respectively (following training)
- To contribute to the development of the laboratory systems and processes to improve the business performance
- To mentor and supervise junior technicians on the aspects of the role, when required
- To produce calibration and test certificates
- To undertake Instrument fault diagnosis and some minor repairs
- To understand the working of a variety of complex pieces of instrumentation as well as their technical specifications, and the methods that can be used to calibrate these
- To liaise with clients advising them on instrument repair/replacements
- To undertake in-house demonstrations of product use to customers, if required
- To produce (following training) testing and calibration procedures using bespoke laboratory calibration management software
- To assist the internal sales desk dealing with technical queries
- To undertake order processing, booking in and dispatch of hire and calibration work
- To test, calibrate and maintain/repair stock of instruments, client equipment, laboratory equipment and any other associated equipment
- To prepare and pack rental instruments prior to their hire
- To develop process calibration and testing control systems
- To undertake occasional on-site visits to set-up and remove rental equipment, if required
- To help in the continued conformity with the requirements contained in ISO 9001 (BSI) and ISO 17025 (UKAS) through procedures defined within the Quality Manual.

This role’s working pattern is 37 hours per week, Mon – Thursday 8.30am-5pm and on Friday 8.30am-4.30pm
You will have
To be successful as Senior Calibration Technician AKA Senior Test Technician you will have
- Experience of working in a calibration laboratory to ISO 9001 or ISO17025
- Ideally previous experience in a UKAS accredited laboratory in the fields such as pressure, temperature, humidity or electrical calibrations
- Minimum BTEC in Electrical Engineering or similar
- Knowledge of the production of uncertainty budgets
- Methodical with a practical ability including diagnostic skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- A good communicator
- Numerate and literate as the work involves rudimentary calculations and a significant amount of written materials
- PC literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft software packages
- Use of specialist lab software packages such as LabView or IndySoft
- Ability to work unsupervised to meet deadlines
