The Senior Energy Principal/Associate job itself where you will be working with the Company Directors, to adopt and/or refine the existing vision for the energy team for the purposes of progressing a strategy of growth (to improve resilience) and diversification into new services (partly for resilience, but also to ensure the team maintains its technical edge). More specifically:

• Leadership of the energy team, setting an example for others to follow and aligning the energy team’s activities with the overarching ambitions of the company. • Providing mentorship and support to junior team members to help them grow; and to ensure quality and consistency. • Engaging with clients for the purposes of maintaining existing and developing new relationships. • Undertaking quality assurance of work undertaken by juniors. • Delivery of more strategic energy statements and complex projects. • Review processes and establishment of alternative procedures (where necessary) for the purpose of improving efficiency and quality (including presentation).

Scope of services include: o Energy Statements – presenting strategies in support of planning applications. o Thermal Comfort Appraisals – to assess the risk of overheating using Dynamic Simulation Modelling (DSM) and based upon guidelines including CIBSE TM52 and TM59. o SAP / SBEM / EPCs – energy modelling for the purposes of Part L, Section 6 and for the generation of Energy Performance Certificates o SECR / ESOS Consultancy – audits of an organisation’s consumed energy and reporting in line with regulatory requirements o Sunlight / Daylight Analysis – considering the impact of development on adjacent properties as well as access to daylight within the proposed building. Services that the team is currently seeking to develop further include: o Operational Energy Performance Assessments – Consideration of building performance in line with CIBSE TM54 and NABERS. o Microclimate Analysis – use of software to examine effect of the built environment on the microclimate (e.g., windspeed analysis – pedestrian comfort). o Passivhaus – the principles are starting to be adopted with projects for some clients. o Climate Change – further integration of the skills of the energy team into the wider climate change service offering.

You will have

To be successful as Senior Energy Principal/Associate, ideally, you will be able to provide technical and thought leadership in the rapidly evolving range of energy/climate change services, particularly around net-zero strategies and implementation.

  • Degree in a relevant discipline, ideally also educated to a Masters Degree level;
  • 5-10 years direct experience in one or more of the aspects listed above;
  • A good understanding of UK planning context. Experience delivering energy strategies for successful planning applications would also be desirable;
  • A good knowledge and working experience with VE-IES software is preferable;
  • A good understanding of the function and application of renewable and low carbon technologies in the context of property;
  • An awareness of carbon footprinting standards is useful;
  • Experience with team management and mentoring would be desirable;
  • Experience in putting together and winning proposals and good client management skills are strongly desirable;
  • Proven analytical skills and data management;
  • Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills (including customer liaison);
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Office;
  • Language skills would be considered positively
